Road Closure 29th Nov – 1st Dec 2019

Just to let you all know, I contacted the ‘Street Works’ team at Cornwall Council who stated that it was NEWQUAY TOWN COUNCIL who organised this event which has led to the primary Taxi Rank in Newquay being inaccessible to the trade for THE WHOLE WEEKEND!

Thus far there has been no alternative provision made for taxis that they are aware of (what a surprise).

I believe we have at least 2 x Newquay Town Councillors on the Taxi Rank????!!!

Is the Electric Car the Future?

For anyone who understands how a Hybrid Car of the future works – a battery powered electric motor driving the wheels with a combustion engine tagged on to act as a generator for additional electricity on demand and for charging – will also understand how a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Car works. It is essentially the same format, but swap the combustion engine for a Fuel Cell which emits nothing but water vapour.

Auto Express – Hydrogen Fuel Cell: Does it have a future

“Every single major manufacturer is either looking at or working on hydrogen cars,” says Jon Hunt, a marketing manager for Toyota and head of commercialisation of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.”

“Lithium-ion battery production [for electric vehicles] is very energy-intensive. As an example, a 100kWh battery will give a potential range of 250 miles and, in order to produce that battery, it will take around 20 tonnes of CO2,” says Hunt.”

Vehicle Standards Consultation Ends 4 Nov 2019

Here are the proposed changes:

Standard and Age of Vehicles
Phase 1
From 01 April 2020 all applications for the grant of a vehicle licence must have at least a Euro 6 diesel engine, a Euro 4 petrol engine (or a newer Euro
standard) and be no older than 10 years of age at the time of licensing.
Phase 2
From 01 January 2021 Vehicle proprietor(s), partnerships or companies who
collectively have 5 or more vehicles licensed with the Council will be required to have at least one vehicle licensed at all times that is an electric or zero emission capable (ZEC) Hybrid vehicle.
Phase 3
The Council will continue to renew existing vehicle licences until 01 July 2024. After this date all vehicles must have at least a Euro 6 diesel engine, a Euro 4 petrol engine (or a newer Euro standard) and be no older than 10 years of age at the time of licensing. The intention of this is to create a minimum standard for licensed vehicles in Cornwall. It should be noted that the Council will accept applications for a higher standard than are described above, for example, an electric or zero emission capable hybrid vehicle.
Vehicles have been required to meet the Euro 6 diesel emission standard since 1 January 2015, but have been available on the market from 2014. Euro 4 petrol vehicles have been registered since 01 January 2006. This equates to a 10 year age limit in relation to petrol vehicles and a 5 to 6 year age limit in relation to diesel vehicles based on the proposed dates as detailed above.
