Someone has asked for a discussion asking everyone to consider the advantages, and perceived disadvantages in the Association putting its weight behind a request to have all 6 Zones’ Hackney fares the same fare – whatever that fare may be. So please give us your comments.

Whether we like it or not, with the exception of the 12 weeks of main season, the PH companies dictate the local taxi economics (i.e. someone got assaulted on the rank for this very thing last week), so it doesn’t really matter what the Tariff Card says if you struggle to charge it, and as far as longer fares go, only a gambler would not set the price and get payment up front and that is rarely the meter rate either. Each Zone has it’s own local economy, that’s why they are separate. I think it’s a pointless exercise with yet more expense (Meter update charges), and once you harmonise this, then there is only one thing left to harmonise (the thing we pay dearly every 3 years to avoid)! I say if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
Once you harmonise the fares across cornwall and all zones are charging the same rates, what’s to stop them deregulating the entire county and having to put up with 200 taxis in newquay on a Saturday night
