For all of you out there in the taxi trade worrying about whether changing to zero-emission electric is a truly viable option, well you really need to watch this BBC TV program to begin with – Rip Off Britain (Tuesday 1st October 2019).
The key points I get from this are very concerning and would make me continue to resist such a change:
- None of the vehicles tested achieved the officially quoted mileage range
- All achieved at least 20% less than this range
- Charging points, although having two power sockets, could only charge one vehicle at a time
- Unreliable software issues were regularly inhibiting the charging process
- As soon as you start using the creature comforts such as air conditioning, you can kiss your charge goodbye!
Considering the hours we spend in our vehicles working, it is utterly unreasonable to be expected to operate without the air con as it is a matter of health and well being, and safety in the work place that you are both comfortable and effective.
