The cheapest and most comprehensive public hire insurance I have found for years now is through a company called Tradex (Clegg Gifford & Westinsure). They don’t try to load your policy costs by charging both separately and extra for public liability. The policy covers everything as far as I can see, and more than most others.

Useful tip – to avoid paying stupid credit charges for paying by direct debit, why not apply for a credit card with 0% on purchases for 12+ months, pay for the insurance in one go, destroy the card and set up a standing order to the credit card in twelve equal payments; kerching! Free credit.
In the event of a non-fault Accident
In the event of a non-fault accident, and with the right evidence, you can go to town on them (as long as they have insurance!). Here is the best experience I have had.
